October 25, 2022

If you earn money through e-commerce, you have a great deal of copy to produce. Learning some copywriting skills can help your words drive people to buy. Courses are available to teach you everything you know, but here are the essentials to writing copy that pops.

Good Copywriting Leads to Action. The goal of copy is to lead the reader to take action. That’s the sole purpose and every aspect of the text should be geared toward this aim.

Know Your Audience. Research your audience thoroughly so you know how to appeal to them. Pay especially close attention to problems they face that you can solve. Make your text relevant to their interests, and they’ll read and take action.

Know Your Market. In addition to researching your audience, you should also invest time in learning about the market. Check out competitors’ products and keep abreast of industry news and trends.

Work on Your Headlines. The headline grabs the reader’s attention and leads them to read on. It has to be effective at doing this, so spend time creating headlines that are clear, unique, and attention-grabbing.

Short and Sweet. The goal of your writing is to get your point across as clearly and quickly as possible. Keep your sentences and paragraphs short and put the most important part up front.

Keep it Simple. Avoid difficult words, industry jargon, or anything else your audience might potentially not understand. Write in everyday language like you’re talking to a friend.

Believe in Your Product. If you sincerely want to help the reader and truly believe in your product, it will come through in your copy.

Communicate Your Value. The focus of your copy should be on the value your product or service offers. Tell the reader how using it will improve their lives in specific and concrete terms. Paint for them a picture of their future improved life.

Leverage Social Proof. Use testimonials, reviews, and other forms of social proof to show that others have used the product and love it. This is very helpful in earning the reader’s trust.

Call the Reader to Action. Throughout the text, tell the reader exactly what they need to do in order to receive these benefits and provide a link to make it easy for them.

Edit, Edit, and Edit Again. Edit your work and let others read it for feedback. Keep revising until it’s perfect.

You can also sharpen your copywriting skills by learning from the masters. Look at advertisements and ad copy that you find persuasive and take it apart to figure out why. Why does it grab your attention? How does it appeal to you? What part of it most makes you want to buy the product?
